The Synod of the Sun
meeting in Stated Meeting at the
Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas
April 27, 2006
a service of Word and Sacrament
PRELUDE
CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 103)
Leader: Come, let us bless the Lord, for God showers us
with benefits and forgives all our sins.
People: God crowns us with steadfast love and
mercy. God satisfies us with good our whole life long.
Leader: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to
anger. God has great compassion on all the children.
People: God’s steadfast love is from everlasting to
everlasting,
and continues from generation to generation.
Leader: God calls us into covenant, declares that we are
the Lord’s, and blesses us in all things.
People: We come to give praise and thanksgiving to God,
for blessed is the name of the Lord.

XPRAYER
OF CONFESSION
Leader: Jesus says, “Abide in me as I abide in you. If you keep
my commandments, you will abide in my love.” We
have heard these words, but we have not
followed
them. Let us pray together and seek
forgiveness.
Unison: Loving and caring God, we say you love us and most of
the time we actually believe it to be true.
But we do
not care for our neighbor. We do not love our
enemies.
We focus on our own agendas and work toward
goals
of our own choosing. We argue and Christ is
often not
at the center of our life in the church. In
these joyful
days of Eastertide, the glory of resurrection
celebration
has already faded. Forgive us, we pray. Turn
us once
again toward your light that we might reflect
that light
and give glory to you. Amen.
(period of silence for personal confession)
XASSURANCE
OF PARDON
Leader: Hear the good news! The saying is sure and ought to
be believed by everyone. Christ Jesus came
into the
world to save sinners. He himself bore our
sins in his
body on the cross, that we might be dead to
sin and
be alive to all that is good. In the name of
Jesus
Christ we are forgiven.
People: Thanks be to God. Amen.

XAFFIRMATION
OF FAITH
A Brief
Statement of Faith, 41-51, 77-79
In
everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah
chose
a covenant people to bless all families of the earth.
Hearing their cry, God delivered the children
of
Israel from the house of bondage.
Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant.
Like
a mother who will not forsake her nursing child,
like
a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home,
God
is faithful still.
With
believers in every time and place,
we
rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us
from
the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.
