This course is designed to enable Christian educators better to reflect theologically.  Participants in this class will consider the relevance of theological doctrine to our lives of faith, making new discoveries about why and how theology matters.  While the course serves primarily as an opportunity for Christian educators to develop their own skills as theologians, substantial attention will also be given (particularly in the final project) to considering how theological insights can best be communicated to others in the daily work of Christian educators.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:

· Registration deadline is June 26, 2006

· Registration is limited to 30 students and late   registrations will be accepted only as space is available

· Housing will primarily be at the McCord Center .

· Class starts Monday, August 7 at 1:00 p.m. and ends Friday, August 11 at noon .

· Meal service begins with dinner on Monday evening and ends with breakfast on Friday.

· If you plan to arrive at APTS prior to the date of August 7, 2006, please notify Hilda Harnden in the Continuing Education office.

 

Credit 

  

This course meets requirements for educators seeking    certification.  It is approved by the Certification Council in advance.  Three CEU’s will be issued upon request.

Dr. Cynthia Rigby

Dr. Rigby is Professor of Theology at Austin Seminary.   She holds an Master of Divinity from Princeton Seminary in Philosophical Theology and a PhD from Princeton in Systematic Theology.

 

Dr. Rigby is co-editor of Blessed One: Protestant Perspectives on Mary (WJKP, 2002) and editor of Power, Powerlessness, and the Divine (Scholars Press, 1997).

 

She preached and presented a paper for the 2004 Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators (APCE) event of more than 1,000 Christian educators. She led sessions at the World Council of Churches' Consultation with Younger Theologians in Finland in 1995, and for the American Academy of Religion where she chairs the “Christian Women Scholars” group.
